Few greenhouse horticulturists work with circular fertilizers. Are you an entrepreneur looking to develop sustainable solutions for this? Then sign up as a chain director for the Circular Fertilizers project in greenhouse horticulture. This way, plant nutrients are reused and made sustainable. Registration is open until Thursday, October 9, 2025.
The challenges of circular fertilizers
There are opportunities for circularity in the greenhouse horticulture sector. Few greenhouse horticulturists work with circular fertilizers. They use synthetic fertilizers, which contain raw materials from mining. With circular fertilizers, greenhouse horticulturists reuse plant nutrients. For example, water and fertilizers from the greenhouse.
Opportunities for the chain director
There is still little known about circular fertilizers in the greenhouse sector. The chain director connects growers, institutions, providers of residual streams to processors, suppliers, marketing organizations, and governments.
This is the goal:
- replacing fertilizers with a mineral or fossil basis;
- reducing dependence on water and plastics; and
- closing nutrient cycles.
The director is also looking for opportunities for greenhouse horticulturists. For example, by exploring what is possible with wastewater.
