A new subsidy aims to encourage the development of energy hubs with hydrogen (hydrogen hubs). The subsidy helps companies become more sustainable with hydrogen, even if they cannot yet connect to the national hydrogen network. Interested companies can participate in the consultation on the new subsidy until January 30.

Also transport, storage and use of hydrogen

The new subsidy stems from the existing Subsidy scheme for large-scale production of fully renewable hydrogen via electrolysis (OWE). Entrepreneurs can apply for this subsidy at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) if they want to produce sustainable hydrogen with an electrolyser.

The new subsidy for hydrogen hubs offers more possibilities. Now applicants can also receive subsidies for the transport, storage and use of hydrogen.

Specifically for hydrogen hubs

In an energy hub with hydrogen, production, transport, storage and use of hydrogen come together. Companies that want to produce or use hydrogen to become more sustainable do this in a partnership. Together they realize the energy hub with hydrogen. This hydrogen hub sometimes also gives them the opportunity to become more sustainable in a place where the electricity grid is overloaded (grid congestion).

Hydrogen hub makes the region more sustainable

The hub also makes local or regional energy consumption more sustainable. And it accelerates the development of the hydrogen market in the Netherlands, because we can learn from these projects. The subsidy is for hydrogen hubs with an electrolyser with a maximum capacity of 15 megawatts (MW).

The subsidy sets requirements for how the hub should look. Think of a maximum distance between participants of the hub. But also the minimum number and type of consumers of the produced hydrogen. Companies can provide input on these requirements.

Participate in the subsidy

Interested parties can participate in the consultation on the subsidy for hydrogen hubs until January 30, 2026.

Input for final subsidy

With the online consultation, RVO and the Ministry of Climate and Energy Transition collect input from companies for the final subsidy. This input shows whether the subsidy is feasible. But also how many partnerships of companies want to receive subsidies, and how much money they need. When the subsidy opens, they can submit their application to RVO.

Online knowledge session on January 15

The National Hydrogen Program organizes an online knowledge session. RVO, the Ministry of Climate and Energy Transition and GroenvermogenNL will tell more about this consultation and the subsidy. There is room to ask questions.
