With a potential new subsidy, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth aim to encourage the development of hydrogen hubs. In a hydrogen hub, entrepreneurs collaborate to produce and use sustainable hydrogen. This allows them to potentially become more sustainable, even if the electricity grid in their area is full. Entrepreneurs who are interested can contribute ideas about the subsidy until April 4th.
Entrepreneurs Opinion Matters
When drafting the new subsidy, the opinion of entrepreneurs is important. They can express their views on the initial ideas. For instance, do they agree with the way subsidy applications are ranked due to limited budget? What do they think about the costs that are and are not covered by the subsidy? Or about the requirements that a subsidy application must meet?
Gauging Interest in the New Subsidy
Additionally, the questionnaire helps RVO and the ministry gauge interest in the new subsidy. Are entrepreneurs considering applying for the new subsidy? How much funding and time do they think they need to implement their hydrogen hub? Furthermore, they can specify what they consider the most important conditions for executing their project.
Variant of Existing Subsidy
The new subsidy is a variant of the Large-Scale Production of Fully Renewable Hydrogen via Electrolysis (OWE) subsidy scheme. Part of the subsidy remains the same, but the new subsidy also provides funding for various additional costs. These costs are specifically incurred for the development of the hydrogen hub. Think of costs for storage, transportation, and the use of hydrogen. The subsidy budget for the first application round is likely to be €100 to €125 million.
Opportunity for Sustainability with Full Electricity Grid
A hydrogen hub is an energy hub that includes a role for hydrogen. Entrepreneurs who are located near each other and want to become more sustainable collaborate within this hub. Generation, transport, storage, and use of energy and hydrogen are closely linked here. A hydrogen hub can help entrepreneurs or municipalities and provinces that want to become more sustainable but, for example, face a full electricity grid (network congestion).
