Trade and Investment Barometer

The barometer is part of the Franco-Dutch Economic Year 2025. It shows how close our economic connection with France is. The report analyzes trade and investment data from the past 10 years. It also provides estimates for 2025 and 2026. Additionally, it offers insights from a survey of 50 Dutch companies active in France.

The report states that it is becoming increasingly easier for entrepreneurs to do business in both countries. It proves the resilience between the two countries, despite global challenges such as inflation and geopolitical uncertainties.

Key Conclusions

Trade

In 2024, the total trade between the Netherlands and France amounted to €117 billion. France is the third-largest export destination for the Netherlands. For France, the Netherlands is the eighth-largest export market.

Investments

The level of foreign direct investment (FDI) between both countries increased by 31% over the past 10 years. Sectors such as technology, sustainable energy, and infrastructure are the main pillars.

Challenges and Opportunities

Macroeconomic obstacles, such as higher interest rates, have impacted trade growth. Nevertheless, France and the Netherlands remain strategic partners within Europe.
