Starting April 1st, there are more subsidy opportunities available for entrepreneurs and researchers for innovations in buildings. They can apply via the Energy & Climate Research and Development (EKOO) scheme. Additionally, there is now a subsidy for more specific themes, such as sustainable heating and cooling of buildings and neighborhoods. Research that previously did not receive funding might now be eligible.
More Subsidies for Specific Themes
The focus on more specific themes provides new opportunities for entrepreneurs and research institutions engaged in highly targeted innovations. Consider research into materials made from biological raw materials (biobased), or material reuse. Or the development of small heat storage systems. Research focusing on innovations for the use of sustainably generated (renewable) energy within buildings can now also receive subsidies.
Innovations for Electricity, Industry, and Circular Economy
Besides buildings, the EKOO subsidy is also available for innovations in electricity, industry, and a circular economy. This can include various types of innovations, from research into innovations to attach solar power systems to buildings, to projects improving floating solar power systems. Subsidies are also available for recycling wind turbines, as well as for the generation of renewable electricity on land. Or consider research into the production of green hydrogen through electrolysis of water.
Accelerating the Energy Transition
The EKOO offers financing to entrepreneurs and research organizations who want to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy (energy transition) with sustainable technologies. Those wishing to apply for a subsidy must collaborate in small groups. This group must consist of at least one entrepreneur. The research can last longer from this application round: 4 years instead of 2. Entrepreneurs can apply for the EKOO from April 1st. Only the EKOO components Circular Economy (formerly KIA CE) and Circular Plastics open on May 6th.
Topsector Energy Subsidy
The EKOO: Built Environment (formerly TSE Built Environment) falls under a subsidy from the Topsector Energy. The budget for innovations in buildings is € 3.5 million. This is € 0.7 million more than last year. € 5 million is available for electricity, € 3 million for industry, and a total of € 9 million for the circular economy.
