NOC*NSF, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), and partners are calling on entrepreneurs to participate in an innovation competition. The goal: to develop sustainable coverings for outdoor sports fields. The best submission will receive € 50,000 to further develop the idea. Entrepreneurs can submit ideas for a sustainable covering until October 9.
The challenges of sports in the autumn
The pressure on sports facilities is increasing due to a rising demand for opportunities to play sports and limited space. Especially in autumn and winter, many outdoor sports fields are unplayable due to precipitation, cold, and wind. Existing solutions for outdoor sports in autumn, such as inflatable halls, have disadvantages. An inflatable hall is a temporary sports hall that is inflated with air. They consume a lot of energy and are difficult to set up and take down. They are also not flexible to use. Therefore, there is a need for coverings that are sustainable, energy-efficient, and circular.
A sustainable innovation competition
The competition encourages entrepreneurs to develop sustainable coverings that make year-round sports possible. Entrepreneurs have the chance to win a pilot budget of € 50,000. They also gain access to a valuable network of entrepreneurs. In addition, they help shape the future of sports in the Netherlands in a sustainable way.
Collaboration for sustainable sports
This innovation competition has been set up with NOC*NSF, RVO, Sportinnovator, KNLTB, NBB, KNHB, Sportbedrijf Arnhem, and Starthubs. RVO supports this competition as a partner in the collaboration Routekaart Verduurzaming Sport. This is committed to the sustainability of sports facilities.
The rules of the game
Submitted ideas must meet the following criteria:
- modular: flexible to adapt to different formats and surfaces;
- circular and energy-efficient: made from sustainable materials and efficient in energy consumption;
- safe: storm-resistant and compliant with all safety requirements for sports;
- multi-usable: suitable for various sports such as hockey, tennis, basketball, and padel.
