On June 10, the PIB program NLHortiWaterRoad2Egypt was signed at the Greentech fair in Amsterdam. This offers opportunities for Dutch entrepreneurs in climate-smart and water-efficient covered cultivation who want to do business in Egypt. 9 companies are already participating. The PIB program NLHortiWaterRoad2Egypt is a collaboration between the Dutch government and companies to promote sustainable and efficient water use in Egyptian horticulture. Additionally, the program aims to strengthen local food security and safety.
During the Greentech fair, 9 Dutch companies signed the PIB program NLHortiWaterRoad2Egypt. This business cluster includes: Boal Group, Hoogendoorn Growth Management, Koppert, Klasmann-Deilmann, KUBO, Priva, Ridder, Svensson, and Van der Hoeven Horticultural Projects.
High-level Egyptian representatives were also present at the signing: Egyptian Deputy Minister Mustafa El Sayyed from the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Saad Moussa, responsible for International Affairs within that Egyptian ministry.
Key Role in the Development of the Horticulture Sector
With their expertise, Dutch companies can play a key role in the process towards sustainable water use in Egyptian horticulture. The PIB program makes this more promising. By collaborating with other companies and the Dutch government, it is also easier for entrepreneurs to enter the Egyptian market.

The agricultural sector in Egypt is essential for the economy and employment of the country. Despite a rich tradition, the sector faces challenges such as water scarcity and outdated technologies. Dutch companies have the opportunity to play a key role in strengthening this sector with their expertise.
