He succeeds Lisette de Ruigh, who has been at the helm of this directorate since 2020. Lisette will leave the NVWA on July 1, 2025. Until Geert Moelker arrives, the position of director of Slaughter Supervision will be filled by Irma Kamst-Duteweerd, director NVWA-IOD.

Inspector General Gerard Bakker on the appointment of Moelker: “I am delighted that we can welcome Geert as our new director of Slaughter Supervision. A complex playing field that requires a director with a clear vision of connection, strengthening, and innovation. A strategic, steadfast leader. I am convinced that Geert will bring this to the NVWA and, together with his management team, will meaningfully further steer the direction of the Slaughter Supervision directorate.”
Geert Moelker is excited about his appointment and proud to take on this role. “I know the NVWA as a professional organization with passionate and committed colleagues who work daily for animal welfare and food safety in the Netherlands. Responsible work where various interests play a role. That also makes it complex. As director of Slaughter Supervision, I will ensure that the NVWA continues to develop as an expert, decisive, and contemporary supervisor that maintains good contact with all stakeholders and conducts its activities transparently.”
