Newcastle disease - also known as pseudovogelpest - is a highly contagious viral disease that primarily affects chickens, pigeons, and other birds. In rare cases, humans can become ill with mild symptoms, such as conjunctivitis, after close contact with infected birds. To prevent the spread of the virus, the pigeons at the location are culled by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).
