The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) seized a batch of 80,000 vapes in collaboration with Customs on Wednesday, July 9. This occurred at a warehouse near Schiphol Airport. These are vapes with various sweet flavors, the sale of which is prohibited in the Netherlands.
There were multiple indications that the flavored vapes were intended for the Dutch market. To prevent them from being sold here, the NVWA seized them. They will be destroyed at the importer’s expense.
More Frequent Offenders
In May of this year, the NVWA also seized 70,000 bottles of prohibited liquids for refilling vapes from the same importer. The liquids had sweet flavors and are therefore not allowed to be sold in our country. The importer did so anyway.
Joint Efforts
By producing, importing, and selling vapes and refills with sweet flavors, producers, importers, and sellers make prohibited products available that are particularly appealing to young people. Vapes are addictive and harmful to health. Through supervision and enforcement, the NVWA contributes to limiting the availability of tobacco and vapes for young people. This supports the goal of the National Prevention Agreement, which aims for a smoke-free generation by 2040.
To reduce the use of vapes among young people, besides enforcement, educating young people and their parents is crucial. It is important to tackle this social problem together and protect young people from these appealing but highly addictive and harmful products. Therefore, the campaign No to Vaping is underway.
