The bird lockdown and shielding obligation for poultry is immediately lifted for almost all of the Netherlands, announced Minister Femke Marije Wiersma of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) on May 28, 2025. The lockdown for commercially kept birds remains in effect in the Gelderse Vallei region due to the density of poultry in this area. In that region, the shielding obligation also remains applicable for holders with more than 250 pheasants, waterfowl, or ornamental waterfowl. Additionally, the lockdown and shielding obligation remain in effect within 10 kilometers of Oldenzaal due to an outbreak of Newcastle disease.
