Avian influenza has been detected at a broiler farm in Ysselsteyn (municipality of Venray, province of Limburg). To prevent the spread of the virus, approximately 153,000 animals at the location are being culled by the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).
Within the 1-kilometer zone around this infected location, there are 2 other poultry farms. In the 3-kilometer zone, there are 10 poultry farms. The farms in the 1- and 3-kilometer zones are screened by the NVWA and then monitored for 10 days through carcass sampling and intensively monitored for 14 days through telephone monitoring. In the 10-kilometer zone, there are 51 farms. Some of these farms are also located in the restriction zone around the infections in Ysselsteyn from 21 and 26 December 2025, Veulen from 24 December 2025, and Deurne from 27 December 2025.
Transport Ban
Within the entire 10-kilometer zone, an immediate transport ban applies. This means that no birds, hatching eggs, and/or consumption eggs may be transported from locations with birds in this zone. There is also a ban on the removal of manure from birds and used litter. These measures are necessary to prevent spread to other parts of the country. Animals other than birds and their products may be transported to and from locations with birds provided this is done according to the strict conditions of the hygiene protocol. The location of the 10-kilometer zone can be seen on the animal disease viewer of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
