How much CO2 do delivery vans and trucks emit that visit the city center of Deventer? The municipality is currently investigating this using cameras at 15 locations in and around the city center.

Zero-Emission Zone

Starting December 31, 2027, a zero-emission zone will apply in the city center of Deventer. This means that the city center will no longer be accessible to trucks and delivery vans with too high CO2 emissions. Ultimately, those emissions must be reduced to zero.

The municipality is currently preparing a traffic decision to regulate the zero-emission zone. To know how much CO2 the trucks and delivery vans still emit, an investigation is ongoing. Measurements were also taken in 2019 and November 2023. This is now being repeated to get an up-to-date picture. With this data, the municipality can calculate how much CO2 is saved by implementing the zero-emission zone.

Anonymous

The cameras only register the license plates of vehicles entering and leaving the area. The license plates are anonymized. A specialized environmental agency then calculates the emissions of the vehicles based on this anonymous data. The municipality only receives information about the emissions. The cameras remain in place for one week.

In the coming period, the municipality will organize information meetings about the implementation of the zero-emission zone, the process, and possibilities for exemptions.
