The Lodewijkstraat recycling center in Eindhoven is due for renovation. Therefore, CURE Waste Management and the Municipality of Eindhoven will close it from December 1, 2025, for about a year to modernize the facility.
After reopening, the renovated recycling center will be able to receive 100,000 visitors per year, up from the current 65,000. It will also have the capacity to process 25,000 tons of waste annually, spread over 35 different waste streams.
With more space and a more efficient layout, there is more room to further improve the separation efficiency, which is currently around 85%. CURE Waste Management aims to increase this to 90%. The recycling centers in Eindhoven will then be fully prepared for Eindhovens growth ambitions in the coming years. The renovation budget is 7.5 million euros.
Extended opening hours at Acht recycling center
Visitors of the Lodewijkstraat recycling center can go to the Acht recycling center during the renovation. From December 1, Achts opening hours will be extended—from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM—to accommodate the extra visitors.
Sustainability
The renovation is carried out with minimal environmental impact. All parties involved come from the region, and many materials from the old hall are reused to realize the new gatehouse and management building. This includes metal construction beams, wall panels, fences, gates, and concrete blocks.
The priority on sustainability is also reflected in the unique water storage system developed for rainwater collection and the number of solar panels installed on the buildings.
The renovated recycling center will primarily offer better service to visitors. Optimizing infrastructure is important in the redesign. This will shorten waiting times for residents and reduce queues on public roads.
