17 associations learned tonight that they will receive funding from the citizen budget for their projects. During a festive event at the City Hall, the associations were informed of the results.

A total of 181,882.96 euros was available for the 20 feasible projects under the theme Community Life. However, there was a shortfall of 34,040.77 euros for the total implementation of all these projects. Therefore, a voting round was necessary, and the choice was presented to residents.

Residents could vote digitally from January 19 to 23 and also last Saturday during the closing event.  The digital voting round yielded 6,727 votes. The closing event took place at the Theater aan het Vrijthof and yielded 867 votes. In total, 7,594 votes were cast for the associations.

Funding for 64 Projects

This year, a total of 64 projects received funding from the citizen budget. The 47 feasible projects within the themes Arts and Culture, Stronger Together, Greening, and Sports and Exercise proceeded directly to implementation. A voting round was not necessary because the required budget remained within the available budget. This year, again, 750,000 euros was available for the Maastricht Citizen Budget.

Alderman Manon Fokke (Citizen Participation) is once again proud of the submitted proposals. ‘It shows that the citizen budget, held for the fourth time, is alive within the Maastricht neighborhoods, organizations, and associations. It is nice to see that the money is being well spent.’
