About 50 local residents and other interested parties attended the walk-in evening on Wednesday, February 25, at the Bonnefanten College. During this meeting, the municipality provided information about the new school building and the new sports hall at Eenhoornsingel. Visitors could share ideas, wishes, and concerns.
Good discussions about traffic and outdoor space
During the evening, residents spoke with representatives from the Municipality of Maastricht, Stichting LVO, HEVO (consultancy and project supervisor), and the architect.
Topics discussed included:
- traffic flows around the building
- the location of the entrance
- the design of the outdoor space
For example, there was a wish expressed for a covered outdoor space for yoga or other physical activities.
Via the project page on Thuis in Maastricht, you can follow the progress. You can also ask questions or submit ideas there.
Start of the design phase
The meeting was an important moment in the project. The final phase has been completed and the program of requirements has been established. This means the main principles for the school building and sports hall are now fixed.
We are now starting the design phase. In this phase, it will be worked out how the buildings will look and how they fit into the environment.
It is especially important to us now to inform and involve the neighborhood. The input from residents will be taken into account in the further development of the preliminary design.
What will be built?
On the site of the current sports fields will be:
- a modern and sustainable school building for the Sint Maartenscollege of approximately 9,000 m²
- a new sports hall of approximately 3,000 m²
The school building will have space for about 1,400 students.
The sports hall will have a flexible layout with 3 sports sections and a separate gym. This allows both the school and local sports clubs to use the hall.
A school in the neighborhood
The new school will also have a role in the neighborhood. The building will be more than just a place for education.
Outside school hours, the building can also be used for activities. It can become a meeting place for local residents, youth, and school staff. This gives the building a broader social function in the neighborhood.
