Defence Receives Report from Sorgdrager Commission
Minister of Defence Ruben Brekelmans received the report from the Sorgdrager Commission today. This commission investigated how Dutch military action in Hawija in 2015 resulted in civilian casualties.
The commission also examined what lessons can be learned for the future. The independent members were led by State Minister Mr. Winnie Sorgdrager.
The findings were shared with the House of Representatives today. The cabinet will provide a detailed response later.
Started in 2020
The independent investigation was initiated in 2020 at the request of the House of Representatives. This was in response to a Dutch airstrike against ISIS, which resulted in many civilian casualties.
