On Monday, January 19, we signed an agreement together with the municipality of Lelystad for the transfer of the plot south of the Batavialand museum. This land is needed for the construction of the new Batavialand museum and for placing the ship De Batavia.
Deputy Sjaak Simonse: “We will build a new entrance building and a new museum here. The new museum offers space for the unique collection of Batavialand. This allows the story of Flevoland and the maritime history of the Netherlands to be presented attractively for both young and older audiences.”
The Planning
The signing of the agreement took place in front of the ship the IJsselkogge, which will be moved to Kampen. After the relocation, the current conservation station can be demolished, creating space for the renewed Batavialand. The ship the Batavia will come ashore shortly after the summer of 2026. Preparations will begin before the summer: the temporary buildings will then be removed and the concrete floor will be laid. The construction of the new museum will start in 2027.
Alderman Sjaak Kruis: The transfer of the land to the province is an important step in the development of this part of the Batavia district. We would like to have more leisure activities here. With the new construction of Batavialand and the landing of the Batavia, the attractiveness of the area will increase.
