To better understand and address the effects of soil subsidence in Flevoland, on Friday, November 21, we signed a cooperation agreement with LTO Noord, the Government Real Estate Agency, Waterschap Zuiderzeeland, and the municipalities of Noordoostpolder and Zeewolde. This marks an important step in the Area Process Soil Subsidence Flevoland.
Why?
Flevoland is increasingly facing soil subsidence. This can lead to waterlogging of farmland, flooding, and crop damage. The area process focuses on gathering knowledge and facts from practice. With this information, we develop action perspectives: possible ways to make the area future-proof.
These plans will form the basis for new policies and measures in parts of Flevoland where soil subsidence occurs. Deputy Sjaak Simonse: “By working together, we can not only better understand soil subsidence but also develop solutions that offer farmers perspective and contribute to a sustainable Flevoland.”
Planning
In the coming years, we will conduct practical pilots in three soil subsidence areas. We do this together with farmers and other stakeholders. The pilots focus on water management, monitoring soil subsidence, suitability of farmland, and lease sustainability.
A joint investment of over €2.6 million is available for the pilots. The Government Real Estate Agency, Waterschap Zuiderzeeland, Province of Flevoland, and the municipalities of Noordoostpolder and Zeewolde jointly contribute. The knowledge and results gained from the pilots will be shared with farmers and other stakeholders.
