Invitation to think big
The vision currently presented is a starting point and carries the promise to fuel debates, discussions, and meetings in a way that entices administrators, elected officials, civil servants, and other stakeholders to think decades ahead. This approach allows for more effective responsibility-taking to capitalize on Limburg’s opportunities and challenges. After the event on February 26, the Limburg future vision will be discussed in the Provincial Council in early March.
Governor Roemer: Creating this vision took one and a half years. It perfectly coincides with the arrival of the minority cabinet, which aims for major breakthroughs, forward thinking, and intensive collaboration. This timing is ideal. As a Member of Parliament or incoming minister, you only need to compare the coalition agreement with our future vision and previous proposals to immediately see opportunities for joint action. A long-term vision can greatly help to find broad support for major societal changes we face.’
Not a decision-making document
The breadth and depth of the Limburg analysis stand out. The vision shows how strongly housing, economy, energy, mobility, and landscape are interconnected. It is emphatically not a decision-making document but a rich source to draw from for current and future administrators.
Roemer: What I am proud of is that it was said: now outline which direction Limburg could take, and only later put on the political hat. In the Limburg executive, each deputy clearly has their own color from time to time – which is completely logical. But at the same time, there is a clear feeling that progress only comes into view if you do it together, try to understand each other, and avoid just putting band-aids on short-term issues. With the future vision, we now have something joint that will benefit our province for years to come. After the presentation on February 26, we will also discuss this in the Provincial Council in early March, a meeting I am already looking forward to.’
Handover to SER chairman Kim Putters
During the presentation, Governor Emile Roemer hands over the future vision to SER chairman Kim Putters, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from government, business, and social organizations. It was deliberately chosen to share the vision on the provincial website several weeks before this afternoon so that visitors to the presentation can conduct their conversations about Limburg’s future with extra depth and based on thorough analysis.
Think and participate
‘TV2050’ is a starting point. The provincial government invites administrators, entrepreneurs, knowledge institutions, social organizations, and others to read and use the vision in their own plans and cooperation. This way, everyone can contribute from a comparable frame of reference to a Limburg that is attractive, healthy, and strong – now and for future generations.
