With the new official, the Province responds to a widely shared desire of the Provincial Council to improve the connection between citizens and government. Portfolio holder Elianne Demollin-Schneiders: “Every signal from residents counts. With the provincial liaison, we respond to the call from the Council to structurally ensure that no one falls between the cracks. We are here for people who have difficulty finding the right path or feel unheard. Thanks to the liaison, we can pick up signals early and, where possible, continue to improve our own policies and services.”

Who is the provincial liaison intended for?

The provincial liaison provides support to people who fail to solve their question or problem through the usual channels because they do not know where to turn or cannot clearly explain their situation. It is therefore about tailor-made support for residents and businesses who are at risk of getting stuck, not an alternative route for regular objections, complaints, Woo requests, integrity reports, or personal disagreements resulting from decisions. These processes run through existing and legally established desks, such as the complaints officer, Woo contact person, or integrity officer. “The liaison therefore explicitly does not take over this role,” emphasizes Deputy Demollin.

What does the provincial liaison do concretely?

The liaison works together with colleagues within the Province and with external partners. The goal is that every question ends up in the right place, even if that is outside the provincial organization. The service is always balanced with the self-reliance of the resident or entrepreneur. Solutions are sought together, but personal responsibility remains paramount. The liaison also signals structural bottlenecks so that the Province can improve policies and processes.
