Deputy Van Caldenberg emphasizes the importance of these initiatives: “Sport has the power to bring people together, create vital communities, and improve the health of our residents. By supporting these platforms, we take an important step towards more movement, greater social cohesion, and a healthier Limburg society.”
The applications were submitted by the Dutch Institute for Martial Arts and Society (NIVM) and the Royal Dutch Gymnastics Union (KNGU). Both organizations collaborate with local clubs and social partners to offer a wide range of sports activities, training, and education.
The NIVM bases its plan on previous research into martial and defensive sports in Limburg. With the platform, it aims to connect budo and martial arts providers throughout the province, strengthen quality, and better utilize the social power of these sports. Key pillars include focusing on knowledge and quality, increasing sports participation, improving visibility, extra attention for people in vulnerable positions, and supporting clubs in making social impact.
This has led to concrete actions that improve the sports climate in the region. Important themes include safety, respect, resilience, and social involvement.
For gymnastics, the KNGU is the applicant for the subsidy. Soon the Limburg Gymnastics foundation will be established to form the platform for gymnastics. The KNGU will continue to support Limburg Gymnastics. This will make gymnastics in the region stronger and more professional, focusing on quality and safety.
With these subsidies, the Province of Limburg contributes to strengthening the sports climate, increasing participation, and promoting a healthier lifestyle. This is part of the policy framework Living together and social security, where sport and movement are used as means for social connection and personal development.
