Deputy Jelle Beemsterboer on Friday, February 27, on behalf of the King, awarded the Royal designation to the Museum Association from Amsterdam.
The Museum Association Opens an external link is the trade organization for museums, working towards a future-proof sector that connects everyone.
In his speech, Beemsterboer said: “On February 27, it is exactly 100 years ago that in The Hague, during the Directors Day of Dutch museums, the Association of Directors of Dutch Museums was founded. The organization we now know as the Museum Association. What started as a meeting between directors grew into a strong and connecting network with 487 members, representing more than 523 museums together. For a century, this association has committed itself to what enriches and deepens us as a society: art, heritage, history, and science. The mission of the Museum Association is as clear as it is meaningful: strong museums connect society.”
Royal Designation
Receiving a Royal designation is a special matter. Parties wishing to qualify for the designation submit an application to the mayor in their place of establishment. The mayor checks whether the applicant meets the conditions Opens an external link, verifies the data, and writes an advice that is submitted to the province. The province also collects advice and bundles it. The Kings Commissioner then writes an advice to the King based on this.
