Good news for Zeeland companies: the newly launched Transitiefonds Zeeland has €30 million available. The fund was established through a collaboration between the Province of Zeeland, Impuls Zeeland, and the Zeeland municipalities. This fund offers SMEs financing for sustainable investments that contribute to the energy and resource transition.

Who is the fund intended for?

The Transitiefonds targets Zeeland SMEs and project organizations (SPVs) that want to invest in sustainable energy, energy savings, solutions for or circular processes. Entrepreneurs can apply for a market-conform loan between €100,000 and €2.5 million, provided their plan is financially feasible and contributes to the transition. Entrepreneurs finance at least half of the investment amount themselves or with co-financiers. “The fund fills a clear gap in the market,” says Rosco Ephraïm, Fund Manager of the Transitiefonds Zeeland.

“Where banks or subsidies are insufficient, we ensure good projects can still proceed. Think of companies that want to electrify their production, install battery storage, or reuse raw materials.”

More than financing

Besides financing, entrepreneurs can use knowledge and services, for example through the Taskforce Zeeland Grid Solutions and the Expert Platform. This increases the chances of success from initial contact to implementation.

Revolving fund

The fund will grow in the coming years to a total size of €30 million, as the Province of Zeeland and the Zeeland municipalities phase in their contributions. The fund is managed by Impuls Zeeland and operates as a revolving fund: repaid funds are reinvested in new projects. It is expected that five to ten companies can be financed annually. Because the fund operates revolving, it is expected that over €250 million will be invested in the energy and resource transition by 2050.
