The implementation of the Zeeland nitrogen plan is in full swing. To structurally give entrepreneurs, farmers and other stakeholders the opportunity to stay in dialogue, the Province of Zeeland starts monthly nitrogen consultation hours in the areas where the challenge is greatest: the Manteling of Walcheren and the Kop van Schouwen.
Structural dialogue
With these consultation hours, the province takes the next step in the area-oriented approach. Not only making plans, but executing together. Not only informing, but listening and thinking along.
- Every last Tuesday of the month from 12:00 to 14:00, interested parties can drop in at the community center De Putmeet in Scharendijke (Schouwen-Duiveland). We start on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
- Every last Thursday of the month from 12:00 to 14:00, the consultation hour is held at the community center Vrouwenpolder (Walcheren). We start on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
No registration is required. The coffee is ready. Employees of the Province of Zeeland are present to answer questions, provide explanations about measures and explore together what is possible within the area-oriented approach.
There is always an employee from the permit department present. Entrepreneurs can therefore speak directly about ongoing applications, permit procedures or specific questions about their situation.
From plan to execution
With the nitrogen plan Zeeland on the road to recovery, Zeeland chooses a future-oriented approach in which nature restoration and nitrogen reduction go hand in hand with space for living, working and entrepreneurship. The focus is on the most vulnerable Natura 2000 areas: the Manteling of Walcheren and the Kop van Schouwen.
This requires a guaranteed declining nitrogen trend and cooperation with the people who live and work in and around these areas. Voluntary but not without obligation.
Previous regional meetings showed how valuable it is to physically meet each other, share ideas and discuss bottlenecks. With the monthly consultation hours, that conversation continues; low-threshold, nearby and structural.
