In 2024, 212 thousand people aged 75 to 85 used help with household tasks. That is 60 percent more than in 2017. This is partly due to aging: there were more elderly people in 2024 than in 2017. But even when this is taken into account, more elderly people receive help with household tasks. In 2017, 14 percent of all 75 to 85-year-olds had help with household tasks; in 2024, this was 16 percent.
The increase is also seen among those aged 85 and older. In 2024, 125 thousand people aged 85 and older used help with household tasks. That is 24 percent more than in 2017. In 2017, 28 percent of all people aged 85 and older used help with household tasks; in 2024, this was 30 percent.
Municipalities are spending more and more on Wmo customized provisions. In 2024, spending reached a new peak of 6 billion euros, 32 percent more than in 2017. Especially spending on help with household tasks has increased in recent years. Spending is rising not only because there are more clients; the average cost per client is also increasing. This can be due to heavier care needs of clients and higher rates.
