During a customs check at the Port of Rotterdam on August 18, 290 kilos of cannabis were intercepted. The drugs were found in two speedboats from Canada.
During the inspection, packages of cannabis were found in all hollow spaces of the speedboats. There was even a double bottom created. In total, customs officers found 173 packages of cannabis in one boat and 397 packages in the other. The total weight of the packages was 289.9 kilos.
The speedboats were on a flatrack, a container without side walls. They were destined for a company in the Netherlands. That company seems to have no connection to the smuggling.
HARC team
The HARC team, a 29-year-old collaboration of Customs, FIOD, Port Police, and the Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam, is further investigating the case.
The drugs have since been destroyed. The smuggling boats will also be destroyed.
