On Tuesday, February 3, the public prosecutor demanded up to 24 months imprisonment against two suspects of a home robbery that took place on July 18, 2025, in Egmond-Binnen. The suspects are an 18-year-old man from Assendelft and a 19-year-old man from Heiloo. They are suspected of theft from a home with (threat of) violence in association.
What happened that night
The victim was very shocked when two men wearing balaclavas stood in his bedroom during the night of July 18. He was watching a video in bed at that moment. One of the intruders had a claw hammer in his hand. The victim recognized him: it was the 19-year-old man from Heiloo.
The two robbers demanded the victims scooters and one of them pushed him outside, holding onto his clothing. They forced him to open the shed and took a scooter from the shed. Another scooter that was in the victims room was also taken. The victim was forced to kneel. Then he had to wait by one scooter until it was picked up and had to walk a bit with the scooter in his hand.
The men also threatened the victim: if he called the police, they would kill him and blow up his house.
That same night the police found the scooters back in the garden of the 19-year-old man from Heiloo. The two men tried to flee when they saw the police, but they could be arrested, still wearing latex gloves.
Later, camera footage showed that the two men placed the scooters in the garden of one of the suspects.
Both men eventually admitted that they had stolen the scooters together. However, they denied the violence or threat of violence.
The public prosecutor does not believe the latter: the victims statement is consistent and there is no reason to doubt it.
Seriousness of the facts
The public prosecutor stated in court that he believed a severe unconditional prison sentence should be imposed for this serious offense. The victim was robbed in his own home in the middle of the night by men with balaclavas and a hammer. His mother also felt unsafe in her own home after the incident.
The public prosecutor takes into account that the suspects are young. The 18-year-old had no previous police contacts. The 19-year-old had previously been convicted for a similar offense and was on two probation periods. This means the public prosecutor demands a lower sentence against the 18-year-old suspect, namely 18 months imprisonment of which six months conditional with deduction of pre-trial detention (83 days) and a probation period of two years. In addition, the public prosecutor requested to impose special conditions advised by the probation service, such as a reporting obligation, a contact ban with the victim and the other suspect, and following education and finding work.
Against the 19-year-old suspect, the public prosecutor demanded 24 months imprisonment of which six months conditional with deduction of pre-trial detention (103 days). Here too, the public prosecutor requested to follow the special conditions advised by the probation service and connect them to the probation period. These include: reporting obligation, treatment obligation, contact ban with the victim and the other suspect, and cooperating in finding daytime activities.
In both cases, the public prosecutor asked the court for immediate enforceability of these conditions: meaning the conditions should start immediately.
Finally, the 19-year-old man still had a conditional community service order of 60 hours. The public prosecutor demands that he now actually carries out this community service.
The court will decide in two weeks.
