In early December, the 76-year-old victim went with his daughter-in-law to get plants at the Hoogvliet supermarket. While standing on the sidewalk to activate his parking app, a scooter approached, driving over the sidewalk directly towards the man. The scooter passed very close to the 76-year-old man. In a reflex, the man pushed the boys on the scooter, causing them to lose balance and crash into several advertising boards. Then the passenger on the scooter got off, walked up to the man, and struck him so hard that he fell to the ground.
Footage of the assault was shown last Thursday on the crime program Bureau Rijnmond. Today, the suspect turned himself in at the police station. The 17-year-old boy from Poortugaal has been arrested.
