Groningen Supporters Arrested for Vandalism at Feyenoord Stadium

Gebied: Rotterdam

Three supporters of FC Groningen were arrested on Wednesday evening for vandalizing the fences and doors of the Feyenoord stadium. The supporters have since been released. One is no longer a suspect, while the other two remain suspects and will have to account for themselves later. The police are conducting an investigation, reviewing the camera footage, and do not rule out further arrests.

On Wednesday evening, the match Feyenoord – FC Groningen took place at De Kuip. Supporters of FC Groningen wanted to bring a drum inside, which is not allowed according to the stadiums house rules. To prevent the drum from being brought in, a gate of the stadium was closed. In response, a group of FC Groningen supporters began to push and pull at the gate until the lock broke and the gate opened. The group then moved to the gate that provides access to the stairs to the away section and also destroyed this with brute force.

During the match, the police identified several suspects with the help of camera footage. After the match, the bus of this group of supporters was stopped by the Mobile Unit, and everyones ID was checked. Three suspects were arrested for public violence and vandalism. One of them was later released because he turned out not to be a suspect. The other two suspects, two Groningen residents aged 23 and 25, have also been released but remain suspects in the investigation. Feyenoord has filed a complaint, and camera footage is being examined; more arrests are not ruled out.
