The accident occurred shortly after midnight, around 12:15 AM, heading towards the Hooipolder interchange. Emergency services arrived at the scene and saw extensive damage. The engine block of one of the cars was lying on the road. They immediately started resuscitation on the driver, but it was unsuccessful. The woman died at the scene. Two occupants in the other car were injured: a 24-year-old male driver and a 23-year-old woman. Both are from Arnhem. The man had to be extracted from the vehicle by the fire department, after which he and the woman were taken to the hospital.
