The unrest started after the Africa Cup final and took place around the Tussenmeer, Plein ’40-’45, and Mercatorplein areas. Youths set off heavy fireworks and set a container on fire. They also threw fireworks towards police officers.
To restore public order, the Mobile Unit (ME) intervened. The police made several arrests and used force, including two charges and restraining individuals on the ground. The applied force was reported according to the applicable guidelines.
The police arrested six individuals suspected of disturbing public order, insult, arson, and public violence. The suspects are men aged 19, 20, and 21 years old. Additionally, a minor was arrested.
By around 1:00 AM, calm returned to the streets. The police continue to investigate the incidents.
