From Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 7:00 PM, the Coen Bridge on the A8 near Koog aan de Zaan is reopened for tall shipping. This ended the closure needed to carry out maintenance work on the Coen Bridge.
The Coen Bridge had been closed to tall shipping since November 1, 2025. Rijkswaterstaat installed sound-dampening plates under the bridge, reducing traffic noise, a long-standing wish of the local community. Just as this work was nearly completed, a collision with a barrier on the bridge occurred.
After installing the plates and repairing the barrier, the bridge was extensively tested. Several malfunctions were discovered and resolved over the past weeks. This means the Coen Bridge can now be operated again and is open for tall shipping. This restores an important link in the Staande Mastroute.
