A rain front is moving from south to north across the country. Due to low road surface temperatures, road users in the northern part of the country should expect dangerous driving conditions caused by freezing rain.

The KNMI has issued an orange code for this situation until Wednesday morning. The urgent advice for road users in the provinces of Drenthe, Groningen, and Friesland is: do not go on the road unless necessary.

For the rest of the country, except for the province of Zeeland, a yellow code applies. Slippery conditions due to freezing of wet roads may also occur there.

Slippery road control

To combat slippery conditions, gritting trucks are deployed. The emergency machines, the Lavastorm and the Firestorm, are also ready to be used for ice patches. On the website Rijkswaterstaatstrooit , it is possible to see where the gritting trucks are driving and where gritting has taken place. The site also shows how much salt has been spread.
