The Municipality of Maastricht is looking for young achievers aged 6 to 18 who make a special contribution to others or to the city. From now on, everyone can nominate young people for the Youth Ribbon 2026.
What is the Youth Ribbon?
With the Youth Ribbon, the Municipality of Maastricht shows appreciation for young residents who voluntarily do something extra for their community. This can be in many ways: contributing to a cleaner neighborhood, helping an elderly or sick person nearby, organizing activities for an association, raising money for a good cause, or delivering another special achievement.
The Youth Ribbon can be awarded to one young person or a group of young people such as a team or a class. The young person must be at least 6 and at most 18 years old. Anyone can nominate: friends, parents, neighbors, teachers, club members, or others.
How to apply?
Alderman Manon Fokke calls on residents to nominate young people: ‘In every neighborhood or district there are young achievers who do something for others or for an association. They deserve to be recognized once in a while’. Nominations can be made via the form at www.thuisinmaastricht.nl/jeugdlintje. This can be done until April 30, 2026.
Award ceremony on June 3
A jury decides who receives a ribbon. The award ceremony for the Youth Ribbon takes place on June 3, 2026, at the Maastricht City Hall. The young person will then actually receive a ribbon. New this year is a cash prize. A total of 1000 euros is available. Depending on the number of ribbons, the money will be divided up to a maximum of 250 euros per winner. The winner may choose a good cause or an association to donate that amount to. The municipality will then transfer the amount on behalf of the young person to that cause or association.
