What is it like to work at a municipality? Many people are curious but do not know exactly what it entails. That is why we organize the Work Experience Week. An accessible way to get acquainted with the municipal organization and the various roles within the government.
A unique insight into municipal work
According to municipal secretary Dirk van Eeten, the Work Experience Week is intended for everyone interested in working for the government. “Whether you just finished school, already have work experience, or are considering a career switch – everyone is welcome,” he emphasizes. The municipality wants to show that it is a dynamic work environment where you can truly make a difference for the residents. Dirk has been municipal secretary and general director of the civil service organization since December 2024.
Accessible introduction during coffee moments
One of the activities during the Work Experience Week is a coffee moment with municipal employees. “It is a good conversation without formal application,” Van Eeten explains. “You can talk to and ask questions to a policy officer, someone from the field service, an HR advisor, or me. It is a relaxed way to get a feel for the atmosphere and discover what working at the municipality entails.”
Working at Overbetuwe: varied and socially involved
What makes working at Overbetuwe attractive? Van Eeten lists several reasons: “We are a dynamic municipality, with plenty of room for initiative and development. We work on important themes such as sustainability, housing, and livability. No day is the same. Moreover, we attach great value to cooperation and a good work-life balance.”
Who is the Work Experience Week interesting for?
The work week is intended for everyone who is curious. “You don’t need prior knowledge, just an open mind and some interest in the public sector.” The week is ideal for starters, people considering a career switch, or simply wanting to discover if a job at the municipality suits them.
Doubt? Just do it!
For those hesitating to sign up, Van Eeten has a clear message: “Just do it! It’s non-binding, so you have nothing to lose. You get a unique insight into the municipality, expand your network, and maybe discover an opportunity you hadn’t thought of. And if it’s not for you? At least you had a nice conversation and a cup of coffee.”
The Work Experience Week is an excellent opportunity to informally discover if a job at the Municipality of Overbetuwe suits you. More information and registration can be found at www.werkbelevingsweek.nl.
