Since March 1, children from low-income families in Rotterdam have access to the Sports and Culture Credit. Children from low-income families automatically receive credit for sports and culture lessons via their Rotterdam Pass. This makes participation easier and more accessible for over 20,000 children in Rotterdam.
The Sports and Culture Credit is intended for children in Rotterdam from low-income families. Children aged 0 to 17 whose parents have purchased a Rotterdam Pass at the low rate automatically receive the credit in the form of vouchers on their pass. With these vouchers, they can participate in sports and culture lessons such as football, boxing, dance, singing, or drawing.
Easy participation
Parents now only need to have their income assessed once, namely when applying for the Rotterdam Pass at the low rate. After that, the Sports and Culture Credit is automatically added to the childs pass. With the voucher, children can go directly to a participating sports or culture provider. A separate application, as was previously required, is no longer necessary.
Alderman Abigail Norville (Poverty Reduction, Debt Assistance, Language and Benefits): We want to make it much easier for children and their parents to participate in sports and culture. In this way, we hope that all children in Rotterdam can take advantage of the wonderful offerings in our city. Because every child deserves to develop themselves and discover new things. Sports and culture also create connection and teach skills that you can use for the rest of your life.
The Credit
The credit consists of:
- 2 vouchers, each valid for half a year of tuition. Redeemable at affiliated sports and culture providers;
- A trial lesson voucher, usable unlimited at various providers;
- A voucher for mandatory sports clothing/equipment or for renting/buying an instrument.
The vouchers for the Sports and Culture Credit can be seen in the My Pass account on the Rotterdam Pass website or app. On the website of the Sports and Culture Credit (www.sportencultuurtegoed.nl. Link opens an external page in a new browser tab.) the offerings are listed and children can choose from over 400 different sports and culture activities.
Ambassadors
Intermediaries continue to play an important role under the name ‘ambassadors’. They know the families well and are indispensable in reaching children and parents for whom participation is not self-evident.
Transition Youth Fund Sport & Culture
The Sports and Culture Credit replaces the current scheme via the Youth Fund Sport & Culture. Children who already participate through the Youth Fund can continue as usual. They can use the Sports and Culture Credit when they change clubs or when a new season starts and tuition fees must be paid again.
