March 3, 2026

Collective living and building add to the housing supply. As a municipality, we gladly facilitate such initiatives, starting pilot projects for housing cooperatives. An information evening is scheduled for March 10.

The housing market is under pressure, also in Tilburg. There are too few homes for everyone who wants to live in the city or villages. Collective living and building add to the housing supply. There are people who want to take the initiative to build a home themselves and live collectively, in an environment that suits them. As a municipality, we gladly facilitate such initiatives. Therefore, the municipality is starting pilot projects for housing cooperatives.

Form of collective living

In a housing cooperative, residents decide everything themselves. It is a form of collective living where a group of people establishes an association to jointly build and/or manage homes. The association is usually the owner, and members rent their home from their own cooperative. Non-profit, but with much influence on their own living environment.

Attend the information evening on March 10

Setting up a housing cooperative involves a lot. Therefore, the municipality is organizing an information evening on March 10. We are happy to inform interested parties about the plans. We are also curious about the ideas already living in the city.

Cooplink, the knowledge network for Housing Cooperatives, tells more about this form of living and shares knowledge and tips.
