The Municipality of Utrecht has taken an important step towards developing the innovative and circular business park Strijkviertel. The zoning plan for the area has become irrevocable. With this milestone, the development of this innovative business park can definitively begin.
Alderman Susanne Schilderman (Circular Economy):“With Strijkviertel, we are building the economy of the future. Here, companies can establish themselves that contribute to a circular and sustainable city. Strijkviertel will be an engine for local, sustainable employment and, thanks to the addition of much greenery, a special and pleasant place to work and stay.”
First circular business park of Utrecht
Strijkviertel will be the first circular business park in Utrecht and, for the time being, also the last business park issued by the municipality. It will be a model location for sustainable and future-proof entrepreneurship. Circularity and high-quality design are central: through efficient use of space, the available land is optimally utilized, while there is plenty of attention for a green and attractive working environment.

The business park offers plots of various sizes, allowing space for diverse companies to collaborate on new sustainable initiatives. The site will provide space for companies that have circularity embedded in their core activities: from material reuse and repair activities to minimizing waste and closing resource chains. The first steps in the development of the business park will be taken soon. Preparing the ground for construction starts this year. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028.
Sustainable jobs close to home
For residents of Utrecht and Utrecht-based companies, Strijkviertel means a boost for sustainable employment close to home. The business park offers space for approximately 1,900 jobs and creates opportunities for local skilled workers and entrepreneurs who want to contribute to a circular economy. Think of companies that reuse building materials, repair companies, producers working with recycled raw materials, or businesses that use residual flows from other companies as raw materials.
Tender for first plot field in 2026
This year, the municipality will start the tender for the development of the first plot field of Strijkviertel. The municipality is looking for development partners who want to realize this part of the site according to the circular ambitions of the business park and thereby have a positive impact on the citys economic climate.
