The Province of Drenthe withdraws the earlier advice to avoid bringing dogs to Dwingelderveld National Park. The non-shy wolf that prompted this advice has not been seen for three months. During this period, no new reports of concerning behavior have been received.
The earlier advice to exclude dogs from Dwingelderveld was issued at the end of November 2025 after several incidents where a wolf approached dogs and came too close to people. Later, reports also came in of a wolf approaching people without dogs. Since then, the situation has been closely monitored by the province, municipalities, land management organizations, and wolf experts.
Dwingelderveld is located in an area where wolves are present. Therefore, the province advises visitors to be mindful of the presence of wolves and to follow the applicable behavioral guidelines. For example, the advice is to keep dogs on a leash in nature areas, stay on the paths, and keep a safe distance when encountering a wolf. Seen a wolf? Report to the Wolf Reporting Point
By withdrawing the advice, the province aims to provide clarity to visitors and recreation entrepreneurs in the area. The province will continue to monitor the situation. If new reports of non-shy wolf behavior arise, the province will assess which measures are necessary.
Visitors who see a wolf are asked to report it via the Wolf Reporting Point (refers to another website). This helps involved parties keep good oversight of the situation.
