With a proposed contribution of one million euros from the provincial Livability Approach, the new Child Center ‘Baeks Kompas’ can be realized, which will serve as a central and multifunctional meeting point in Beek, also housing a primary school, Library De Domijnen, and the GGD. This creates an accessible place where, besides education, there is space for various social, cultural, and care-related activities and services. Baeks Kompas thus becomes a meaningful place for the entire community.
Building a Vibrant Location
Michael Theuns, Deputy for Space, Housing, Water, Soil, and Livability: “By bringing education, care, sports, culture, and meeting places together in Beek at one central location, we are building a vibrant and inviting place where all residents of the municipality of Beek feel seen and where a new generation gets the space and future to grow.”
CDA Alderman Rob Schwillens (Accommodation Policy): “Livability goes beyond realizing physical facilities. It is about a place where people meet, feel safe, and can develop. By combining greenery, meeting places, and social functions, a future-proof environment is created that contributes to equal opportunities for young and old.”
Moving and Meeting in a Green Connecting Zone
In the area around Baeks Kompas, a green play zone with outdoor gym facilities will be created. Additionally, an open, future-oriented, climate-resilient, and safe terrain and school environment will be arranged. This outdoor space offers room for play, movement, and meeting and serves as a green connecting zone between Sportlandgoed De Haamen, Carmelwijk, and other facilities in Beek.
