CEL4LIFE is an ambitious collaboration aiming for a fully circular economy in Limburg by 2050. Twelve parties work closely together towards this goal, including the Province of Limburg, LIOF, Stadsregio Parkstad Limburg, Chemelot, Maastricht University, Gilde Opleidingen, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, CHILL, Ebert HERA, Building Balance Limburg, Afvalsamenwerking Limburg, and Wonen Limburg. Various other (EU)-regional and national organizations are also involved as stakeholders.

Deputy Stephan Satijn: “With CEL4LIFE, we strengthen our position as a progressive region. This project offers us the opportunity to build a sustainable future and a strong, innovative economy together with partners. This way, we not only create environmental benefits but also new economic opportunities for Limburg.”

European Funding Program

The project is made possible by a European LIFE subsidy. This funding program supports projects that contribute to European policies on environment, energy, and climate, and also focuses on the transition to a circular economy. The European Commission positively evaluated the proposal in June 2025. The Limburg project, running until January 2032, received a subsidy of €11.6 million.

Model Region for Circularity

With CEL4LIFE, Limburg becomes a model region in circularity. In the coming months, the focus will be on setting up the first concrete projects and further strengthening cooperation among partners. CEL4LIFE makes an important contribution to European, national, and regional objectives in the field of circular economy and aligns with the Implementation Program Circular Economy 2024-2027: On the way to 2023.
