Recently, new nitrogen figures have been added to the Brabant nitrogen data overview. They come from the Emission Registration Agency and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). The figures are updated annually and provide insight into nitrogen emissions up to and including 2023, nitrogen deposition in 2023, and expected deposition towards 2030.

Compared to 2022, nitrogen emissions in North Brabant have decreased. Almost all sectors contribute to this decline. Agriculture and traffic & transport, as the sectors with the highest emissions, show the largest decrease. Relatively, emissions have decreased most in the energy sector, with a reduction of 28%.

Expectations towards 2030

According to forecasts from the RIVM and the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, nitrogen emissions in North Brabant will continue to decrease in the coming years: from 24.0 kilotons in 2023 to 19.3 kilotons in 2030 and 17.6 kilotons in 2035. Deposition on nitrogen-sensitive Natura 2000 areas is also expected to decrease.
