The management of Diemerbos is secured for the years 2026 and 2027. The municipality of Diemen, the municipality of Amsterdam, and the province of North Holland have made a joint financial agreement to enable the most necessary management during this period. Thanks to this agreement, the forest will remain clean, safe, and accessible to visitors for the next 2 years.
The agreement follows a long period of uncertainty regarding the financing of the management. Staatsbosbeheer previously indicated that without additional funds, it was no longer possible to manage the forest at a responsible level. In this context, the risk of selling the forest was also mentioned if no solution was found. With the current agreement, that scenario is off the table for the next 2 years.
Thanks to the temporary financing, Staatsbosbeheer can continue to perform the most important management tasks. This includes keeping paths safe and maintaining basic facilities. It concerns only necessary management. No funds are yet available for large-scale maintenance, replacement, or further development.
In 2026, new talks will begin between the involved parties to reach a structural solution for the period starting from 2028. The goal is to financially secure not only the annual management but also future major maintenance and replacements.
