In September 2025, the national government made €2.16 million available to the Province of North Holland for the implementation of the distribution law.
This primarily concerns the tasks of the Kings Commissioner as chairman of the Provincial Coordination Table Asylum (art. 4.1 of the distribution law). With this funding, the province ensures administrative coordination of the reception task within the province, the distribution of reception locations across the province, and supports municipalities in realizing reception places for asylum seekers.
On January 1, 2026, municipalities in North Holland facilitated a total of over 12,500 asylum reception places, of which approximately 750 were for unaccompanied minor asylum seekers.
On February 27, 2026, the Minister published a new capacity estimate showing that North Holland has a total provincial reception task of 14,905 places, of which 947 are for unaccompanied minor asylum seekers. This number must be realized according to the law by July 1, 2027. This involves continuing ongoing projects, keeping closing locations open longer, and searching for new locations suitable for reception.
Distribution
The funds for implementing the distribution law in North Holland will be used as follows this year:
- €1 million for a provincial subsidy scheme to financially support municipalities in realizing new reception facilities and in researching suitable and available locations for this purpose. Municipalities in North Holland can apply for this Implementation Regulation subsidy realization asylum reception North Holland 2026 between March 19 and September 30. This can finance (extra) personnel capacity and expertise.
- €950,000 to support administrative coordination at the 5 regional coordination tables. Due to the size of the province, it was decided to organize parts of the provincial consultation at the regional level. The province provides subsidies for the 5 administrative regional tables. This allows the regions to appoint coordinators who play an important role in supporting the regional tables. Furthermore, the province can contribute with this money to projects that support the guidance of asylum seekers to work, with the approach that regions and municipalities can learn from the insights gained.
The remaining amount will be used later for other matters within the asylum portfolio.
National Funds
For the financing of all statutory tasks under the distribution law, the national government has made 3 funding streams available. 2 funding streams go directly to the municipalities and 1 funding stream runs via the Kings Commissioners in their capacity as National Body (chairmen of the Provincial Coordination Tables Asylum).
