Retail sector records over 2 percent increase in turnover in January

• Non-food turnover grows by nearly 2 percent
• Food turnover nearly 3 percent higher
• Online retail turnover nearly 4 percent higher

The retail sector recorded 2.2 percent more turnover in January than in January 2025, reports Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The sales volume was 1.2 percent higher. The turnover of non-food (including non-store retail) grew by 1.9 percent and the turnover of the food sector (shops in food and luxury goods) by 2.6 percent. Online turnover was 3.6 percent higher than a year earlier.

The turnover figures are corrected for the composition of shopping days in January. On some days of the week more is sold than on other days. Without this correction, the retail turnover was 2.5 percent higher than in January 2025.
