Her Majesty Queen Máxima will attend the opening of the 75th anniversary of Hotel Management School Maastricht (HMSM), part of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, on Thursday, October 2. Under the theme Roots and Wings, both the history of the hotel school and the future of hospitality, education, and craftsmanship are central.
Since 1950, HMSM has trained nearly ten thousand students for an international career in hotel and food service management. The hotel school aims to be a pioneer in sustainable hospitality, where innovation and responsibility go hand in hand during the training.
Queen Máxima will attend the opening, which will provide an explanation of the history and ambitions of the hotel school and the importance of well-trained professionals. There will also be attention for Foundation HMSM, which provides financial support to current and future students to promote equal opportunities.
Afterwards, Queen Máxima will learn about various aspects of HMSM during a tour. She will talk with students, teachers, and researchers about international collaborations and sustainable initiatives. In the kitchen, she will attend the preparation of festive snacks and a tasting session. Subsequently, she will meet students who are being prepared for an inclusive and international labor market with applications such as virtual reality and technology. In the Teaching Hotel, she will finally see how practical learning works and get to know the student association.
