Her Majesty Queen Máxima will open the UPPACT recycling factory in Farmsum on Wednesday afternoon, April 1. In this factory, mixed plastic and textile waste streams are mechanically processed into new building materials such as poles, planks, and beams. The factory serves as a demonstration and validation site for a circular production concept.
After the opening, Queen Máxima will receive a tour of the factory and speak with employees and involved partners about the development of the production facility, the applied technology, and cooperation within the circular chain. She will also hold discussions with representatives from government and business about regional cooperation, financing circular innovations, and chain formation.
The UPPACT DEMO factory is a Dutch circular scale-up focused on processing hard-to-recycle mixed plastic and textile waste streams. Using Australian mixer-melter technology, waste streams can be mechanically processed into sustainable and recyclable building materials, for use in public spaces and infrastructure.
The factory is located in the Chemport Innovation Center in Farmsum. Its goal is to validate the production process on an industrial scale and forms the basis for further upscaling in the Netherlands and beyond. The DEMO factory has a capacity of four tons and offers a solution for hard-to-recycle mixed plastic waste streams that are often still incinerated.
