On the evening of May 9, 2018, a serious sexual offense occurred in a park in Rijen, during which the suspect used significant violence. Since the investigation did not initially lead to an arrest, it was designated as a cold case in early 2026 and transferred to the cold case team of the ZWB police.
Soon after this transfer, the police received information about a DNA match related to this case. The cold case team, in close cooperation with the sexual offenses team, tracked down the suspect, and with the local basic team, the suspect was arrested on Monday, February 16, 2026. The suspect is currently in custody. He is a 51-year-old man without a fixed residence or place of stay.
Today, the suspect was brought before the Investigating Judge, who decided that he must remain in custody for an additional 14 days.
