From September, swimming lessons for one euro for Stadspas holders

From September, Stadspas holders can buy a 5-lesson card for €5 at Noorderparkbad, Zuiderbad, and De Mirandabad. At Bijlmersportcentrum and Sloterparkbad, they can purchase a subscription for €5 per month that entitles them to 1 swimming lesson per week.

More swimming lessons for newcomers

Adult status holders have been able to take free swimming lessons since 2024. Learning to swim gives newcomers safety in and around the water and helps them participate better. They can enjoy water together with other Amsterdam residents. They also go to the pool with their children with more confidence. Up to October 2025, 211 status holders obtained a swimming diploma: 101 A diplomas, 84 B diplomas, and 26 C diplomas.

Therefore, we are expanding swimming lessons for newcomers. Asylum seekers at Amsterdam COA locations and refugees from Ukraine are also invited for swimming lessons.

Swimming lessons for children

Children with a Stadspas have long been able to take free swimming lessons via the Youth Fund for Sports and Culture.

Alderman Mbarki: We lower the threshold to take swimming lessons

Alderman Sofyan Mbarki (Sports and Exercise) obtained his A diploma last year at the age of 41. He knows from personal experience how important it is to be able to swim. “Not all Amsterdam residents had the chance to learn to swim in their youth. The threshold to take swimming lessons as an adult can be high. I know this better than anyone. By making swimming lessons cheaper for a larger group, we lower that threshold, hopefully encouraging more adults to obtain their swimming diploma.”

Free swimming with the Stadspas

Free swimming with the Stadspas is already possible. Cardholders may swim 3 times a week all year round for €1 per time. We are now adding swimming lessons to this.
